Amazingly sharp and buttery, isn’t it? (especially considering that it was super dark in my office)

A picture of my growing puppy.

Moose is no longer the adorable young puppy he once was. Now he is bigger… stronger… more faithful… and even more playful than as a puppy. Seriously, he will play fetch as long as you will throw something – anything. My Moosey teaches me valuable lessons every day: never forget to add some time for fun into your day; if you are patient and look longingly enough, you’ll eventually get someone to play with you; and never forget to greet the one you love at the door.

So, as i’ve mentioned before… I love my dogs like children. In fact, dogs are even better than children. They are always there to come and love me, they are potty trained in a couple of weeks, and no one calls child protective services when I leave them home alone all day.

Since Brandon’s been in Hawaii, i’ve been taking care of a lot of little projects that have gotten backed up – mostly editing related (which means i’ve spent a lot of time in front of the computer lately). Apparently when i’m out and about, they use the afternoon as ‘naptime’ and haven’t appreciated my interloper status. So when I hauled out the camera the other afternoon, this is what I got:

Moosey (his real name is Maximus… I don’t know how we ever got to Moosey, but he likes it): i’m trying to be cute for you…

But I just… can’t.. stay.. awake…
Moosey was clearly unhappy about having to follow me outside the room to take a picture of Bandit:

I didn’t even bother trying to wake up Bandit, who was passed out in the doorway of my office

But when I went on the other side to take a picture, he woke up… and tried to hide his head in his paws. Ah, the celebrities have taught him well….
And the ultimate ‘if dog looks could kill’… look. Seriously, have you ever seen a dog look so pissed off?

I guess my lesson was… they don’t like picture time in the afternoon!

Venturing into the absurd today….

No, that’s not a lame excuse for not doing my homework (although I used it as something along those lines today and made someone laugh so hard another person came in to check on us).

Yes, I do believe my dog broke my nose. I don’t know for sure – I haven’t gone to the doctor (because really, what are they going to do? it’s not visibly crooked and its not bleeding). In the most unfortunate bit of timing last night, I called my dogs into my bedroom when the hubby and I were getting ready to go to sleep. The light was off already, so I couldn’t see if the lagger one had pulled himself off the couch to follow me. I bent down to pet him and give him some love… but realized that I wasn’t sure which it was.

So I bent down again.

And Brandon whistled right then.

And the dog (still don’t know which one it was, although I suspect it was the older bigger one – Bandit), such a well-trained boy, jumped straight up onto the bed.

And straight into my face.

I had a split-second thought of ‘oh, nice soft doggy fur, this doesn’t hurt.’ Then excruciating pain ripped through my head and I felt a crack followed by a pop.

I tried to hold it together… but I felt myself staggering as I stumbled towards the light. Before I could reach it, I was wailing. Completely involuntarily. Brandon asked me what was wrong. “my…. nose…. dog… nose… think…broken” I choked out. He jumped out of bed and hugged me, as he kept asking what was wrong and what I needed. “Ice, need ICE” I said. He hugged me again. “NO, hug, ICE!” I yelled (i’m not very patient when in serious pain). He ran and got me ice. I tried to look in the mirror, but it literally hurt too badly to open my eyes.

Brandon returned with the ice – and some ibuprofen for my already-swollen face. Within a couple of minutes, one side of my nose had swollen shut. The other was just hard to breathe through. Today, my nose is still swollen and i’ve o.d.’d on ibuprofen to keep the swelling down. Luckily the black eyes aren’t too bad, and I was able to cover them with makeup. I keep also having people ask if i’m sick.

No, I explain. My dog broke my nose.

Now lets see how long I can use that as an excuse….

Asking people to come and pose for you and subjecting them to my neurosis is a somewhat uncomfortable thing for me to do. I’m a little chicken like that, I guess. But I have two subjects who are ALWAYS willing to pose for me (and behave naturally) – my puppies In some ways, they are the greatest things to practice on – they move a lot, don’t really listen to directions (well, they do, but they get distracted by the camera), and are difficult to expose properly. And yes, the red one is really that red, and the black one is the blackest dog ever – so shiny black that I get little speckles that look like noise from his fur!
